Budi Luhur University Lecturer Suspended After Allegedly Harassing Female Student
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Budi Luhur University has confirmed the suspension of a lecturer with the initials Y to investigate the harassment of a female student with the initials A. “Based on the results of the investigation and examination by the PPKPT Task Force Team, Budi Luhur University has taken firm, swift, and structured action by issuing the Rector’s Decree on the Release of Duties in the Field of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education for the Lecturer in the Even Semester,” stated Rector of Budi Luhur University Agus Setyo at his office in South Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). “We offer our deepest apologies to the victim for the situation and conditions that have occurred,” he explained. Agus assured that the campus will make improvements to create a sense of comfort for the academic community in the campus environment. “Budi Luhur University consistently remains fully committed to creating a safe, dignified campus environment free from all forms of sexual violence, bullying, and intolerance by implementing a zero-tolerance principle,” he stated. Previously, the victim had reported the incident to the campus authorities in 2023. The report was followed up with a temporary suspension of Y for six months. “The campus said the perpetrator was suspended for six months but still received pay and was active, like in technical meetings on campus. If strongly suspected, it should have been stopped,” said Pahala. Pahala mentioned that they have not yet pursued legal channels through a police report. Currently, they are still seeking a persuasive resolution prioritising the victim’s interests. It is planned that, through legal representation, A will issue a summons to the campus demanding the permanent dismissal of Y. According to Pahala, the removal of Y’s position as an academic official should be the campus’s firm step in maintaining a clean environment free from harassment. “The process is gradual, persuasive first. Yesterday, the alumni chairman was not respected and was even scolded, so they will be forced to issue a summons,” he said.
