Budi Arie: To Eradicate Corruption, It Must Be Swept from the Centre of Power
Projo chairman Budi Arie Setiadi supports President Prabowo Subianto’s efforts to eradicate corruption, particularly within the centre of power.
He made the statement in a speech at Projo’s 12th anniversary celebration, held modestly at the organisation’s office in Kalibata, South Jakarta, on Sunday (23/8).
Budi Arie, known as Muni, said many officials currently claim to serve the people but end up committing corruption.
“Nowadays many people say it is for the people, for the people, but they are also thieves. True, isn’t it?” said Budi Arie.
“That is why we must be firm: if we want to eradicate corruption, it must be swept from around the centre of power,” he added.
Budi Arie said the government cannot claim to be fighting corruption while ignoring such practices within the elite circle of power. He affirmed Projo’s commitment to standing with the people.
He said Projo supports the Prabowo-Gibran administration in realising the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045.
“And all of that requires our contribution, our dedication, from all of us without exception, according to our respective abilities and fields,” he said.
Budi Arie said there is nothing wrong with the current Prabowo administration’s programmes. However, he noted that some programmes are often not executed properly.
“The fault lies not in the ideas, but in the execution and in practices that deviate, which of course make the public critical and questioning,” he said.
Projo’s 12th anniversary celebration was held modestly at the organisation’s central board office and was attended only by core officials and dozens of volunteer members.
No banners or billboards featuring Jokowi, President Prabowo, or Vice President Gibran Rakabuming were visible at the event. A silhouette of Jokowi appeared only on the Projo logo permanently installed at the front of the office.
“There is one. This is just the logo. Look, everything is in the logo,” Budi Arie said when asked about the absence of photos of Jokowi or Prabowo-Gibran at the event.
