Budi Arie Affirms Jokowi-Prabowo Relations Remain Good: Stop the Provocation
Projo chairman Budi Arie Setiadi has stated that his organisation continues to support the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. He also affirmed that relations between Prabowo and Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), remain positive.
“Regarding the relationship between Mr Jokowi and Mr Prabowo, there are those attempting to drive a wedge between them. In my view, stop the provocation, because we want this government to be built on the foundation of national unity,” Budi Arie told journalists during Projo’s 12th anniversary celebration in Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Sunday (23/8/2026).
Budi Arie said the problems facing Indonesia are already substantial and numerous. He therefore argued that all parties must exercise restraint for the sake of the people’s interests.
“National unity is important, and we as fellow citizens must unite to resolve the various problems facing the nation and the people. Because the challenges facing our nation and state today are not light, amid the various upheavals occurring in society,” he said.
Budi Arie also expressed his readiness to support Jokowi should the former president take a role in leading the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). However, he declined to answer questions about whether he himself would become PSI’s secretary-general.
“Just wait. You have to ask Mr Jokowi whether he wants to become PSI chairman or not. Ask Mr Jokowi, ‘Sir, do you want to become PSI chairman or not?’ That’s how it should be,” Budi Arie said.
“As for Projo, if Mr Jokowi becomes PSI chairman, Projo from Sabang to Merauke across all of Indonesia will certainly support Mr Jokowi’s party,” he continued.
Budi Arie added that his organisation is still awaiting Jokowi’s future political direction. Projo, he said, is ready to follow Jokowi wherever he goes.
“We are waiting for Mr Jokowi’s direction and instructions. If Mr Jokowi becomes chairman, we will support Mr Jokowi’s political direction,” he concluded.
