Budget rises to Rp75 million, Tangsel City Government targets 329 RTLH renovations in 2026

KOMPAS.com – The Tangerang Selatan City Government (Tangsel) has again rolled out its house renovation programme for underprivileged residents. Throughout 2026, Tangsel City Government aims to repair 329 dwellings not fit for habitation (RTLH) to become healthy, safe, and decent housing. The Tangsel Mayor Benyamin Davnie said the programme is part of the city’s effort to provide comfortable lodging for low-income residents. He explained that recipient determination is based on residents’ applications, a priority system, and the level of suitability of the house. “Actually more than 1,000 units were submitted, but this year we have an budget for 329 units,” Benyamin said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Tuesday (19/5/2026). He explained that the budget for house repairs in 2026 increased to Rp 75 million per unit from previously Rp 71 million. With that budget, the renovated houses will be equipped with two bedrooms, a living room, electrical facilities, ceramic flooring, and a water pump. “Initially Rp 71 million, then rose to Rp 75 million,” Benyamin said. He added that the construction process for a single house is estimated to take about one month, including demolition of the old building which takes about a week. “We do not consider aspects other than feasibility and health, as well as the economic status of the family involved,” he said. Meanwhile, applications for house renovation assistance are submitted through the RT chairman and the sub-district before being further verified by the City Department of Public Housing, Settlement Areas, and Land (Disperkimta) Tangsel. At the same time, the Acting Head of Disperkimta Tangsel Robby Cahyadi said that the assessment of dwelling uninhabitability includes sanitation and construction safety aspects. “For dwellings not fit for habitation, there are criteria, such as sanitation and constructions that endanger the occupants’ safety,” he explained. “Let’s not have a house built on someone else’s land or a squatter building,” Robby added. Until 2026, around 2,800 housing units have been repaired by the Tangsel City Government through the RTLH renovation programme spread across the city.
