Budget for Renovating Official Residence Reaches Rp 25 Billion, East Kalimantan Governor: Toilet, TV, Sofa No Longer Serviceable

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud stated that many facilities in the governor’s official residence are no longer serviceable and require renovation, from toilets to furnishings.

This statement was made by Rudy in response to public scrutiny over the renovation budget for the governor’s official residence, which is said to amount to around Rp 25 billion.

“There are many things missing, starting from the electronics, toilets that need fixing, lights and so on, including the televisions and sofas that are no longer serviceable,” said Rudy when met at the RI House of Representatives Building, Tuesday (7/4/2026).

“We are fixing it back to accommodate all activities of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government,” he continued.

“So in essence, the Rp 25 billion is not just for the governor’s house, but also for the deputy governor’s and the pendopos there because there is a guest house,” he said.

He explained that the official residence has not been used for more than 10 years.

Thus, many parts need to be repaired so that it can be reused for government activities.

Such as Odah Etam which can accommodate more than 1,000 people and Olah Bebaya with a capacity of more than 500 people.

“So there are many things being fixed in that official residence,” Rudy stressed.

On that occasion, Rudy emphasised that he never specifically requested the provision of an official residence.

He also claimed that the renovation budgeting was carried out by the Regional Government Budget Team (TAPD) and discussed with the East Kalimantan DPRD.

“I never requested an official residence, but it has indeed been prepared. It was the TAPD team that carried out those activities and budgeted for it,” he revealed.
