Budget for Coastal Abrasion Repair in Bali Reaches Rp 4 Trillion
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti revealed that the budget required to address abrasion issues along Bali’s entire coastline is approximately Rp 4 trillion.
“If abrasion is handled comprehensively across Bali, the funding needs are estimated at Rp 4 trillion,” said Diana during a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission V of the House of Representatives at the Parliament Building, Senayan, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Diana stated that this measure is considered urgent given the increasingly severe abrasion conditions, which pose a potential threat to the tourism sector and the environment on the Island of the Gods.
“In recent years, extreme rain and high waves have increased the risk of abrasion,” Diana remarked.
“Of the total 215.82 km of critical coastline, only about 115 km has been addressed, while the remainder still requires further handling,” Diana continued.
She explained that current abrasion mitigation is being carried out through the Bali Beach Conservation Project, divided into two work packages.
The first package covers abrasion handling at Candidasa Beach with a budget of Rp 518 billion, targeted for completion in November 2027.
Diana added that the construction method used involves building coastal protections such as revetments with arrangements of protective stones (armour/boulder), equipped with supporting facilities like pedestrian paths.
