Budget Efficiency: PPLS Ensures Mud Discharge into Porong River Remains Safe
The Sidoarjo Mud Control Centre (PPLS) has ensured that the condition of the embankments and the discharge of mud into the Porong River remains safe and controlled. This statement responds to public concerns regarding the reduction in discharge volume caused by national budget efficiency policies.
Based on collected data, the volume of mud discharge, which was originally at 21,000 cubic metres every two days, has now been adjusted to 13,000 cubic metres. Despite the decrease in volume, PPLS emphasised that all disaster mitigation systems continue to operate at full capacity to prevent any overflows.
“Budget efficiency is occurring across Indonesia, and we are also affected. However, the public does not need to worry. We have instruments and early warning system equipment at all embankment points,” said Willem S, Head of the PPLS Specific Vertical Working Unit, at the Sidoarjo Regent’s office on Tuesday.
He added that all movements of water and mud volumes are being closely monitored. If the system detects a critical status or signs of danger, PPLS will immediately take instructional action, which can also be monitored directly by the public through their official website.
