Budget Efficiency: Karanganyar Regency Provides Two Cows for Qurban
Budget efficiency measures have led Karanganyar Regency to limit its Qurban animals to two cows, to be slaughtered at Masjid Agung Madaniyah, each weighing 300kg. “This year’s Qurban assistance programme is focused on budget efficiency, but public enthusiasm and contributions from various parties at Masjid Agung Madaniyah remain high. In total, seven cattle and nine goats will be slaughtered at Karanganyar’s main mosque,” stated Karanganyar’s Community Affairs Head, Ali Kodri, on Tuesday (26/5/2026).
The two cows from Regent Rober Christanto and Vice-Regent Adhe Eliana, weighing over 300kg each, are Peranakan Ongole (PO) and Brangus breeds sourced from local farmers in Gedong, Karanganyar District. “The breeds differ—one is superior PO and the other Brangus, each weighing approximately 300kg,” Ali added.
All Qurban animals will arrive at Masjid Agung Madaniyah by the eve of Takbiran. Slaughter is scheduled immediately after the Eid al-Adha prayers planned at Karanganyar Square. “Following the morning Eid prayer on 27 May, the Regent will hand over the animals to the mosque committee for slaughter and distribution to the community,” he said.
The government has entrusted the local Masjid Agung Madaniyah committee to ensure even distribution of meat to surrounding residents and nearby villages. “We confirm all Qurban animals have undergone strict health checks by the Agriculture Department and are handled by Halal Slaughterers (Juleha) to guarantee hygiene and adherence to Islamic law,” Ali concluded.
