Jakarta — As the 2026 Lebaran homecoming rush intensifies, affordable accommodation facilities at the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal in East Jakarta are proving highly popular with bus passengers travelling to their home towns.

“Alhamdulillah, many people are staying at the accommodation facilities at Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal in this lead-up to Lebaran,” said Christianto, Head of Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal, on Tuesday in Jakarta.

The transit accommodation with affordable rates provides a solution for homebound travellers seeking temporary rest before continuing their journey. Christianto reported notably high occupancy levels, with 20 of the 25 available rooms fully occupied by returning passengers.

“Only five rooms remain empty, as 20 rooms are already taken by homecoming travellers,” Christianto stated.

The accommodation is exclusively for passengers holding valid bus tickets and maintains gender-segregated dormitories to ensure comfort and safety. Some passengers arriving at the terminal during night hours choose to rest before resuming their journey the following morning.

“Usually, people stay because they are in transit, waiting for the next bus, or arrive in the middle of the night and wait until morning to continue their journey,” Christianto explained.

The accommodation rents for Rp15,000 per night, with an additional Rp5,000 charge for bathroom facilities. Though basic, the facility is considered adequate as a temporary stopping point. The accommodation is located on the third floor of the driver rest building, close to the passenger arrival area.

Jakarta Transportation Agency personnel are stationed nearby to ensure safety and comfort for facility users. Male dormitories feature mattresses without pillows, whilst female dormitories are equipped with beds and pillows. Each room has power outlets for charging mobile phones and other electronic devices.

During the homecoming period, occupancy rates tend to increase with growing passenger numbers at the Pulo Gebang Terminal. With affordable rates and strategic location within the terminal, Christianto hopes the transit accommodation can help returning travellers have more comfortable journeys, particularly for those with long waits or varied travel schedules.

The Jakarta Transportation Agency previously reported that the 2026 Lebaran homecoming operations at various city terminals are running smoothly, with peak traffic predicted for 18 March 2026.

“As far as homecoming policy and operations in Jakarta are concerned, Alhamdulillah, operations at the four main terminals and three additional terminals we monitor are running smoothly, particularly at type-A terminal, which is Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal,” said Ujang Hermawan, Deputy Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, at the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal on Tuesday.

He confirmed his agency continues monitoring homecoming traffic developments at the four main and three additional terminals serving departing passengers. Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal, a type-A facility, is one of Jakarta’s largest intercity bus departure hubs.

Based on latest monitoring data, a passenger surge occurred on Friday, 13 March, with over 4,000 passengers departing using approximately 800 buses from the terminal. The Jakarta Transportation Agency has deployed various personnel to ensure smooth and safe travel for homecoming passengers.
