Buddhists gives to needy

JAKARTA (JP): A number of orphanages and homes for elderly and poor people in Greater Jakarta were given 25 tons of rice, dried noodles, clothes and school equipment by Buddhists of the Nimmala Buddhist monastery in Tangerang, West Java.

The chairman of the monastery foundation, Budhi Suardaya, said the charity event was an expression of the Buddhists' concern for the well-being of less privileged people and was among activities being carried out to commemorate Buddhist Cioko Thanksgiving Day, Antara reported.

Among the recipients of the donations are an orphanage in Tangerang, a home for elderly people in Cengkareng, West Java; a home for poor people near the monastery; and Islamic schools in Tangerang, Bogor, Bekasi and Serang, all in West Java. (01)
