Buddhists donate blood

SEMARANG, Central Java: To commemorate the upcoming Waisak day, 50 Buddhists donated blood yesterday to the Indonesian Red Cross.

The head of the Theravada Buddhist Religious Council, D. Henry Basuki, said the blood donations were an act of social solidarity ahead of religious celebrations Monday.

He said Buddhists here have also contributed 10 metric tons of rice and two metric tons of sugar to the needy. (mds)
