Buddhist charity for the poor
The Nimmala Buddhist monastery foundation has donated 40 tons of rice, noodles, cloth and school equipment to the poor and disabled people in several areas here, as well as Serang and West Jakarta.
The contribution was handed over on Monday at an old folks' home in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, in commemoration of Ulambana (Social Solidarity) Day.
The remaining goods will be handed over starting next week to a number of parties, such as the poor, Islamic primary schools and orphanages.
Chairman of the foundation, Trisno Budianto, said that the contribution is an act of Buddhist solidarity to the needy.
"The amount is nothing. We just want to show our sympathy to our brothers who still need help," he said. (bsr)
