Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BBTN) is expanding its digital services through the balé by BTN app. BTN President Director Nixon L.P. Napitupulu said that by September 2026 the app had recorded 2.23 billion transactions, up 46% year on year.

The app had 5,021,503 users, an annual increase of 51%. As of September 2026, the value of transactions on balé by BTN reached Rp103.53 trillion, up 44% year on year.

“Reaching five million users is something we can be proud of. In around a year and a half since its launch, balé by BTN has become an important part of BTN’s modernisation,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (13 October 2026).

Nixon said the growth had been supported by an expansion of the app’s functions. balé by BTN now offers more than 764 features, serving not only basic banking needs but also a range of customers’ everyday requirements.

The app enables customers to carry out banking transactions, buy flight and hotel tickets, purchase tickets for trains and the Whoosh high-speed rail service, top up mobile credit and data packages, buy shopping vouchers, access tourism and event services, and use various financing solutions.

BTN has also developed balé Properti to help people find homes and access the home-financing process more easily.

The development of balé by BTN is therefore intended to make it more than a mobile banking app: it is designed as a super app connecting customers’ financial, housing and lifestyle needs within a single digital ecosystem.

“We want this service to be increasingly attuned to customers’ needs and to offer convenience that is genuinely relevant to their activities,” he said.

Nixon added that the digital service was also contributing to the company’s business. By September 2026, savings deposits generated through BTN’s digital ecosystem had risen by 30%, while fee-based income increased by 42% year on year.

BTN is continuing to extend the reach of its digital services through partnerships across various ecosystems, including merchants, education, transport, healthcare, tourism, property and other strategic partners.

Nixon said that, after reaching a larger user base, the next priority was to improve the quality of engagement so that balé by BTN would deliver greater benefits to customers and contribute more to BTN’s business growth.

“Now that the user base has grown, the challenge is to optimise users, transactions and the ecosystem so that they deliver greater benefits to customers while also contributing to BTN’s business growth,” Nixon said.

He added that the expansion of digital services was being accompanied by stronger security measures. In his view, the growth of digital transactions must be matched by reliable technology and greater public understanding of transaction security.

“As digital services develop, security must be considered from the outset. The challenge of digital crime is not only about technology, but also about how people understand and use it. That is why security and customer education must go hand in hand,” he said.
