Bank Tabungan Negara is once again staging the international-scale running event, the Jakarta International Marathon 2026 (JAKIM 2026). This year, the event is projected to drive an economic turnover of more than Rp200 billion.

The surge in economic impact comes alongside a significant increase in the number of participants, from around 31,000 runners last year to approximately 45,000 in 2026. This rise is expected to stimulate various sectors, from transport and accommodation to culinary and micro-businesses along the race route.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the regional government fully supports the staging of this event due to its multiplier effects on the community’s economy.

“With the significant rise in participants, this year’s economic turnover will exceed last year’s,” said Pramono.

He added that, in addition to providing free public transport for runners and organisers, the DKI Provincial Government also views this event as strengthening Jakarta’s image as a safe and friendly city for international events.

The economic impact will not only be felt by large-scale businesses but also the informal sector. The presence of tens of thousands of participants, including nearly a thousand foreign runners, is estimated to boost the turnover of street vendors, MSMEs, and local transport services.

Race Director of Indonesia Muda Road Runner, Satrio Guardian, assessed that the surge in participant numbers is the main factor in the increased economic impact from this event.

“With the increased number of runners, it will certainly boost this year’s economic turnover,” said Satrio.

In addition to the number of participants, the international appeal also broadens the economic effects. Foreign participants arriving from dozens of countries generally spend more time in Jakarta, thereby driving consumption in the tourism and lifestyle sectors.

On the other hand, BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu sees this event as also driving an increase in digital transactions among the public.

“BTN JAKIM also serves as one of the drivers for the number of bale by BTN users to reach 4 million. This year, we target an increase to 5 million,” said Nixon.

Nevertheless, the organisers have ensured that infrastructure readiness and event management remain a priority. A sterile, safe, and well-organised staging concept is applied to maintain participant comfort while minimising disruptions to public activities.

In 2026, JAKIM will be held over two days with various distance categories to reach wider participation. The race route, which passes through various Jakarta landmarks, also serves as an additional attraction for both runners and tourists.
