PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s programme to provide 3 million homes. This programme is directed towards improving societal welfare through the provision of decent, affordable, and quality housing. BTN’s President Director, Nixon LP Napitupulu, views this programme as targeting not only basic shelter needs but also serving as an economic driver while empowering communities. “This subsidised housing programme offers numerous benefits to society, prospering many families while stimulating the economy,” explained Nixon in Jakarta on Sunday. According to him, the impact of the housing programme is felt not only by direct beneficiaries. Prabowo’s programme to build millions of homes practically activates the construction sector and its derivatives. From there, micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) are also propelled, from local building material suppliers and craftsmen services to small businesses around new housing areas. The use of local products strengthens the domestic supply chain. This reduces import dependency while opening up employment opportunities. Thus, the 3 million homes programme brings multi-layered impacts on the quality of life and the economic structure of society. “The multiplier effect is significant for regional economic growth,” stated Nixon. Access to decent housing creates a healthier and more stable living environment. This condition impacts improvements in education quality, particularly for children who need safe and conducive learning spaces. This is done alongside protections for raw paddy field land (LBS) and protected paddy field land (LSD), encouraging housing development not to sacrifice productive agricultural land. As a result, the balance between shelter and food needs remains maintained. “National food security can run hand-in-hand with settlement development,” explained Nixon. Based on a study by BTN’s Housing Finance Center, subsidised KPR recipients experience improvements in quality of life. “They can own decent homes, no longer burdened by rental costs, and possess long-term assets. Home ownership also provides a sense of security, satisfaction, and pride as a life achievement,” said Nixon. From an economic perspective, the housing sector provides significant contributions. KPR is recorded to drive additional national economic output of up to Rp 3.049 trillion. Even, every additional Rp 1 trillion investment in this sector can absorb around 8,000 workers. Thus, the 3 million homes programme becomes one of the strategic instruments to encourage inclusive economic growth, while broadly enhancing societal welfare.
