PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk. (BBTN) has stated that its buy now, pay later (BNPL) product is currently in the licensing application stage. Director of IT at BTN, Tan Jacky Chen, is targeting the state-owned bank’s paylater service to launch this year.

“Paylater, we are currently starting the development. And from a business perspective, the licensing application for paylater is being submitted,” Jacky said when met at the Menara Radius Prawiro building on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

He said the bank is also strengthening its calculations from both a business and regulatory, compliance, and governance perspective for the BNPL product. “So, system-wise, we are gradually doing a parallel run for the development of the paylater system itself,” he explained.

Regarding the paylater credit limit, Jacky said BTN will determine it based on each customer’s profile and segmentation. “Because each profile and segment is different, and the use cases will also be adjusted to the profile and segment that we consider eligible to receive paylater or to apply,” he revealed.

He disclosed that the paylater feature will be available on BTN’s super app, Bale. Jacky stated that the bank, which focuses on housing finance, is also continuing to strengthen Bale as its flagship product. “Because Bale is our champion product. We will strengthen it there, that is our super app. So, the islands from consumer, from lending, one of which is paylater, the gateway will be through Bale,” he explained.

On the same occasion, Jacky also revealed that BTN has absorbed more than 50 per cent of its IT capital expenditure (capex), in line with its target. According to him, BTN’s IT capex amount this year has increased by around 10 to 15 per cent. “But indeed, the absorption will be increasingly higher. It will be larger towards the end of the year. So, it is in accordance with our target regarding capex absorption,” he said.

Last February, BTN’s Director of Consumer Banking, Hirwandi Gafar, revealed that the bank had obtained approval from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to run the BNPL product, and it was currently in process at Bank Indonesia (BI). At that time, Hirwandi was targeting BTN’s paylater to be launched in the first quarter of 2026. He said the paylater launch is part of BTN’s ambition to go “beyond mortgage” and enter its customers’ lifestyles.
