PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BBTN) will continue its corporate action to acquire pension loans from PT Bank SMBC Indonesia Tbk (BTPN) in the third quarter of 2026. BTN has already completed the first phase of the pension loan portfolio acquisition from SMBC Indonesia, with a transaction value of approximately Rp12.6 trillion. In the second phase, BTN will proceed with an acquisition worth around Rp7.34 trillion, bringing the total number of pension loan accounts managed by the company to approximately 344,600. BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu explained that the acquisition strengthens the composition of BTN’s non-housing loan portfolio while creating new sources of growth with a higher yield profile and maintained risk. The entire acquired portfolio consists of performing loans, thereby supporting the improvement of the company’s asset quality and making a positive contribution to profitability. Through this inorganic growth strategy, BTN is targeting a gradual increase in the proportion of non-housing loans to around 30% of the total loan portfolio within the next five years, so that the company’s business structure becomes more balanced, resilient, and capable of generating sustainable growth. “The beyond mortgage strategy does not mean abandoning the core housing finance business, but rather complementing it so that BTN customers can access credit from their productive years through to retirement. This step will also enhance BTN’s long-term business resilience,” Nixon stated on Thursday (16/6/2026). Meanwhile, as of the first half of 2026, BTN recorded consolidated loan and financing distribution of Rp418.11 trillion, an increase of 11.2% year-on-year from Rp376.11 trillion in the same period the previous year. This growth was supported by a 4.8% year-on-year increase in the housing loan sector from Rp317.77 trillion to Rp332.88 trillion as of June 2026, and a 46.1% year-on-year surge in non-housing loans from Rp58.34 trillion in June 2025 to Rp85.22 trillion in June 2026. Subsidised home ownership loans (KPR) remained the main driver of housing credit, rising 8.1% year-on-year from Rp182.17 trillion to Rp196.96 trillion as of June 2026. In addition, the Housing Programme Loans (KPP) distributed by BTN reached Rp4.1 trillion as of June 2026, since their launch at the end of October 2025. Nixon added that the increase in non-housing loans was largely supported by expanded penetration into various sectors such as education, health, government, financial institutions, and retail. The company is also partnering with multifinance firms to expand motor vehicle financing as part of its beyond mortgage diversification strategy, while simultaneously boosting cross-selling to existing customers.
