Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Tabument Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) is set to expand its programme of exchanging household waste to reduce mortgage (KPR) instalments, known as “Pay Your Instalments with Your Waste,” to eight provinces and 15 cities across Indonesia.

As of March 2026, the company recorded that this programme has collected more than 1,261 kilograms of waste from 21 residential clusters.

BTN Director of Commercial Banking, Hermita, stated in a briefing received in Jakarta on Thursday that the programme strengthens BTN’s connection with the community through services integrated into daily activities.

“BTN wants to be present not only when people purchase homes, but also to support new habits that provide economic benefits while maintaining environmental sustainability,” said Hermita.

BTN Director of Risk Management, Setiyo Wibowo, added that through this collaboration, the public can participate in waste management by depositing inorganic waste such as plastic, cardboard, aluminium, iron, and glass. This waste will be converted into economic value that is deposited directly into BTN accounts.

He emphasised the critical importance of household-level waste management. Referring to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), households contribute approximately 46.3 per cent to national waste production, equivalent to 34.1 million tonnes per year. However, only 31.3 per cent, or about 10.7 million tonnes, of this waste is successfully managed.

“BTN believes that emission reduction can start at home. Through collaboration with local waste bank communities, we want the public to feel that depositing waste at BTN is both more profitable and contributes to environmental preservation,” said Setiyo.
