BTN Partners with North Maluku Government to Drive Economic Growth
Jakarta - PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) has committed to serving as a primary strategic partner for the North Maluku Provincial Government in driving rapid economic growth, digitising public services, and improving community welfare.
North Maluku’s economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 was recorded at 19.64 per cent year-on-year (yoy), far above the national average, according to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS). This growth was primarily driven by the processing industry sector, which surged by 37.09 per cent, alongside a 17.57 per cent increase in investment or Gross Fixed Capital Formation (PMTB).
“North Maluku is a locomotive for national economic growth. The 19.64 per cent growth in the first quarter of 2026 and the record 34.17 per cent growth in 2025 prove that this region has extraordinary potential through downstream industries, mining, fisheries, and tourism,” said BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In 2025, North Maluku recorded the highest economic growth in Indonesia at 34.17 per cent, with a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices of Rp133.6 trillion and a per capita GRDP of approximately Rp97 million. This momentum is supported by the region’s wealth of potential, including nickel downstreaming, gold and copper mining, fisheries, spice plantations, marine tourism, and renewable energy, positioning North Maluku as the main engine of economic growth in Eastern Indonesia.
Given the high speed of economic growth, Nixon noted that BTN views the needs of the community and government for financial services as having shifted. The company is present not merely as a depository institution, but as a development partner ready to assist with government financial digitalisation, support public services, and strengthen the regional economic ecosystem.
Nixon also expressed appreciation and gratitude for the trust placed by the North Maluku Provincial Government in depositing funds with BTN. This fundamental trust serves as a strong foundation for expanding future cooperation.
As a tangible demonstration of its social and environmental responsibility (TJSL), BTN also handed over assistance allocated for the construction of 32 liveable houses in the Sidangoli area, South Jailolo District, West Halmahera Regency (Domato region).
North Maluku Governor Sherly Tjoanda welcomed and expressed her highest appreciation to the BTN President Director and staff for the TJSL assistance. She stated that a safe and liveable home is the most essential foundation for building a strong national civilisation, starting from the smallest social unit: the family.
“So that children can live in a safe, peaceful living space, grow up with a good education, and form a superior future generation. A healthy, prosperous, strong, and dignified family will form a strong village, a strong sub-district, a strong province, and ultimately a strong country,” Sherly said. She added that a house is not merely a shelter, but the primary living space where the entire initial process of character building takes place.
