PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) is strengthening its support for the 3 Million Houses Programme by partnering with Statistics Indonesia (BPS) to utilise national statistical data, including the By Name By Address (BNBA) dataset. BTN President Director Nixon L. P. Napitupulu stated that the collaboration is targeted at improving the accuracy of housing finance targeting, expanding public access to home ownership, and supporting the formulation of increasingly data-driven national housing policies. He noted that the housing sector is a key driver of the national economy due to its multiplier effect on over 185 economic sub-sectors. Meanwhile, Indonesia still faces a home ownership backlog of approximately 9.9 million units, with new housing demand reaching around 700,000 to 800,000 units annually. These conditions make precise financing a crucial key to the success of the 3 Million Houses Programme. “We have a significant need, which is data. If we can have better data on who does not yet own a home, their income levels, and their demographics, that is what we need. With better data, financing will be more accurately targeted,” Nixon said in a statement on Wednesday. The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the provision of statistical data and/or information and the utilisation of banking services, signed by BTN President Director Nixon L.P. Napitupulu and BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in Jakarta on Wednesday. The MoU is valid for five years and serves as an umbrella for cooperation between the two institutions in building a data-driven housing finance ecosystem. Through this partnership, BTN will utilise statistical data and BNBA in accordance with statutory regulations to obtain a more comprehensive picture of public housing needs based on location, socio-economic characteristics, purchasing power, and potential financing demand across various regions. The utilisation of this data will also be strengthened through the results of the 2026 Economic Census, which can identify the characteristics of business activities in various regions, new economic growth centres, and the development of business ecosystems supporting the housing sector. This information will serve as an important reference for BTN in strengthening its financing strategy, developing more relevant services, and expanding financing access according to the economic characteristics of each region.
