PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk assesses that spending activity by participants of the BTN Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM) 2026 has increased compared to the previous year’s event. This condition is seen as a positive signal for economic turnover amidst the challenges still faced by the business world. BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu stated that the increase in spending activity was evident from the BTN Sport Expo, which is part of the JAKIM 2026 series. According to him, the high public interest was reflected in the sales of various official products provided during the event. One indicator was the official BTN JAKIM 2026 jacket, which sold out. The 10,000 jacket units provided by the organiser were completely sold, prompting additional orders to be opened to meet participant demand. “Looking at yesterday’s spending, the 10,000 jackets provided by Nike were sold out, so we had to open pre-orders. So we are creating demand,” Nixon said after the BTN JAKIM 2026 event at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex, Jakarta, Saturday (13/6/2026). Nixon assessed that various activities capable of attracting public participation can be one way to drive economic activity. According to him, the business world needs to continue seeking opportunities to create demand amidst the economic slowdown. “We must fight the sluggishness. The business world must move together to create demand so that the economy keeps running,” he said. A similar assessment was conveyed by Bank Syariah Nasional (BSN) President Director Alex Sofyan Noor. He observed that public enthusiasm for BTN JAKIM this year was higher than previous events, including in terms of participant consumption activity. “This year I see that the shopping interest is much greater than last year,” said Alex. The high economic activity is in line with the increased number of BTN JAKIM 2026 participants. Overall, the international running event was attended by approximately 45,500 runners, including 1,012 international participants from 52 countries. On the first day of the event, 20,500 runners were recorded completing the 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre categories. The presence of tens of thousands of participants and their companions is considered to have boosted economic activity across various sectors during the event. BTN is targeting the JAKIM 2026 event to generate an economic impact of up to Rp225 billion. This value is an increase compared to the estimated economic impact of last year’s event, which reached around Rp155 billion. To measure this economic impact, BTN has engaged an independent survey institution to conduct a more comprehensive calculation. Nixon said the high public participation shows that sporting events not only play a role in promoting a healthy lifestyle but are also capable of moving a broader economic sector. “The important thing is we must create demand. Events like this are one way to move economic activity and provide benefits to many sectors,” he said. Previously, BTN Corporate Secretary Ramon Armando stated that BTN JAKIM is not only an international sporting event but also part of an effort to promote sport tourism and strengthen Jakarta’s position as a global city. According to him, the presence of participants from various regions and countries has also moved the hospitality, transportation, culinary, and trade sectors during the event.
