BTN Funds Construction of Decent Housing for Forgotten Heroes with Rp 8 Billion Budget
PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) is supporting the construction of 30 decent houses for veterans, families of veterans, families of fighters, and former athletes who have brought honour to Indonesia through the ‘Rumah Cahaya’ programme, initiated by the PHSI Indonesia Emas Foundation.
The houses are being built on land owned by the PHSI Foundation with support from BTN. In addition to the housing, recipients also received freehold titles (SHM) for the homes, which were presented during the handover ceremony for 30 ‘Rumah Cahaya’ freehold certificates to ‘forgotten heroes’ in Jakarta on Monday night (31/08/2026).
BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu stated that the programme targets communities who are no longer able to access housing finance through mortgages (KPR), primarily due to age factors.
“Because not all segments can use KPR, not all segments can use instalments or credit. From the age perspective, as you can see, it is no longer possible,” said Nixon.
According to Nixon, the construction of the 30 houses has been underway since last year. The houses are two-storey buildings equipped with necessary infrastructure and supporting facilities.
He noted that the provision of freehold titles is a vital part of the programme, ensuring that the houses received become assets owned by the recipients and their families.
“What we are handing over today is not just house keys, but also freehold certificates. This means the house truly belongs to you, serving as a place to return to, to gather with family, and hopefully, to be passed down to the next generation,” he said.
The Chairman of the PHSI Foundation Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Housing Task Force, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, stated that providing decent housing is a crucial part of improving community welfare.
According to Hashim, there are still members of society who do not have decent housing, including those who have served in the struggle and development of the nation.
“Indonesia has been independent for 81 years, but some of our people are not yet happy because they do not yet have decent homes. Therefore, we want to help those who do not have habitable houses, including the heroes who have served this nation,” said Hashim.
The Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, expressed his appreciation for the programme. He assessed that providing decent housing requires collaboration between the government, the business world, and the community.
“I would like to express my gratitude for this initiative. This is very good because the government cannot work alone. The important thing is to build a super team and build collaboration,” said Maruarar.
BTN’s support for providing decent housing is also carried out through the construction and renovation of social housing. From 2022 to 2026, BTN has supported the construction and renovation of 477 social houses for underprivileged families, low-income communities, fishermen, coastal farmers, and disaster-affected communities across various regions in Indonesia.
Nixon added that efforts to provide housing must go hand-in-hand with the development of a sustainable housing ecosystem.
“Indonesia’s housing issues cannot be answered simply by building houses. We must also build the people and the housing ecosystem that will serve as the foundation for Indonesia’s housing in the future,” he concluded.
