BTN and Samosir Regency Government Sign MoU to Develop Tourism, SMEs, and Public Services in Lake Toba

PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk, known as BTN, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and several cooperation agreements with the Samosir Regency Government and its regional apparatus organisations. The partnership aims to support the development of the tourism ecosystem, empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs), improve health services, and digitalise government services in the Lake Toba area.

BTN President Director Nixon L.P. Napitupulu stated that Samosir Regency holds a strategic position as part of the Lake Toba region, which has been designated as a Super Priority Tourism Destination for Indonesia. He noted that a growing tourism sector must be supported by a robust economic ecosystem to create a broader impact for the community.

“Tourism is very closely linked to SMEs. Nationally, around 60 per cent of Indonesia’s gross domestic product is supported by SMEs, and this sector also absorbs approximately 97 per cent of the workforce,” Nixon said in a statement on Monday, 22 June 2025. “Therefore, in line with Danantara’s directives, tourism development must go hand in hand with SME empowerment, so that economic growth can deliver greater benefits to the community.”

Nixon explained that through its Beyond Mortgage transformation, BTN is continuously expanding its role from a housing finance bank to a development partner providing various financial solutions for the public, businesses, and local governments. This synergy is also part of BTN’s efforts to implement Danantara’s strategic direction to consolidate the strength of state-owned enterprise assets in order to create more optimal added value for national and regional economic development.

Over the past two years, BTN has established cooperation with around 58 district and city governments across various regions of Indonesia as part of efforts to strengthen regional economic development. As a follow-up to the cooperation with the Samosir Regency Government, BTN will expand access to productive financing for SME players through various schemes, including People’s Business Credit (KUR) and Property Programme Credit (KPP), while encouraging transaction digitalisation so that businesses can further develop and upgrade.

BTN is also ready to support the development of health services by providing various banking solutions for Dr. Hadrianus Sinaga Regional General Hospital, ranging from transaction services, to payroll, QRIS Merchant, and financing support for facility development and medical equipment investment according to the hospital’s needs.
