BTID Hands Over 10 Teba Modern to Serangan Market Traders
Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID) has handed over 10 Teba Modern devices to traders at Pasar Desa Adat Serangan to manage organic waste. The handover took place on National Waste Awareness Day on 21 February 2026. This donation is part of BTID’s support as the Management and Development Agency for the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone to promote waste governance that is more orderly, environmentally friendly, and in harmony with local wisdom. The head of Pasar Desa Adat Serangan, I Wayan Suwarjaya, expressed appreciation to the KEK Kura Kura Bali management. He said the presence of Teba Modern at Serangan Market helps traders sort the waste they generate. ‘I would like to thank BTID for helping and supporting Pasar Desa Adat Serangan by providing biopore pits or Teba Modern,’ Suwarjaya said in a written statement received by detikBali on Thursday, 5 March 2026. Previously, in 2025 BTID had also handed over 19 Teba Modern to Serangan Village. BTID’s Head of Communications Zefri Alfaruqy said that environmental management and market cleanliness should be given attention. Zefri emphasised that traditional markets are not merely places for buyers and sellers to meet, but also centres for environmental education for residents. ‘We believe that sustainable environmental solutions always stem from community initiatives themselves. Our role at BTID is to support the initiative for using Teba Modern in this market to continue growing and become an inspiration for other areas in Bali,’ Zefri said. In addition, traders can channel plastic and paper waste to the local waste bank to be converted into rupiah balances. ‘Nice that the presence of Teba Modern reduces waste from littering. We can sort the waste, so there are benefits,’ said one trader, Darmi. Darmi hopes that the collaboration between Pasar Desa Serangan and BTID can last in the long term. ‘Hopefully this runs smoothly in the long term. May it bring benefits to the community, to all of us,’ she said. The collaboration underscores KEK Kura Kura Bali’s commitment to continuously promote inclusive environmental management on Serangan Island. The synergy shows that local wisdom and modern systems can coexist, creating a cleaner, more orderly environment and delivering value to the surrounding community.
