BTB strengthens fire mitigation measures along Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar Toll Road
PT Bakauheni Terbanggi Besar Toll (PT BTB) is strengthening mitigation and fire prevention measures along the Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar (Bakter) Toll Road. The efforts include increased field patrols, 24-hour CCTV monitoring, public outreach, and coordination with various stakeholders, according to PT BTB Director Charles Girot in a statement from Bandarlampung on Monday.
He explained that patrols are conducted regularly by operational personnel, covering the road right-of-way (Rumija), medians, and locations deemed to have potential for fires due to weather conditions or activities by communities near the toll road. In addition to field patrols, the company is optimising the role of its communication centre team (Senkom), which monitors conditions along the toll road around the clock via CCTV. This monitoring serves as part of an early detection system to identify potential disruptions, including signs of land fires along the toll route.
‘With the support of CCTV monitoring and field patrols, any indication of disruption can be immediately relayed to relevant officers for inspection and handling according to the situation on the ground. Coordination between the Senkom team and operational personnel is also continuously maintained to ensure a swift and accurate response,’ he stated.
Beyond targeting local communities, PT BTB is also issuing reminders to road users through loudspeakers at every toll gate and rest area, as well as via Variable Message Signs (VMS) along the toll road. Road users are urged not to carelessly discard cigarette butts or other sources of fire during their journey.
Charles Girot emphasised that the company is implementing a comprehensive prevention approach by combining personnel readiness, technology utilisation, and public awareness. ‘Road user safety is our top priority. Therefore, we are carrying out thorough mitigation, from field patrols and 24-hour CCTV monitoring to outreach for communities around the toll road. We also continue to remind road users through loudspeakers at every toll gate and rest area, as well as via VMS along the toll road, not to discard cigarette butts or other sources of fire carelessly,’ he said.
PT BTB has also ensured the readiness of operational personnel and supporting equipment for emergency response should any incidents require on-site handling. ‘Through strengthened patrols, 24-hour CCTV monitoring, community outreach, and road user education, PT BTB continues to enhance prevention and early detection efforts against potential fires along the Bakter Toll Road,’ Charles concluded.
