BSSN promotes collaboration to create robust cyber sovereignty on 80th anniversary

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) is championing the spirit of collaboration on the occasion of its 80th anniversary to create robust cyber sovereignty and strengthen national resilience.
BSSN Head Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Nugroho Sulistyo Budi stated that the institution he leads is embracing the spirit of collaboration in the digital era as a form of adaptation to the times without losing the values developed by cryptography experts from past eras.
“Cyber security cannot be handled by a single entity alone. Cyber security is a complex ecosystem. On a large scale, it involves countries, political circles, industry, communities. And do not forget, there is also the role of the media,” said Sulistyo at BSSN headquarters on Monday.
This spirit of collaboration is expected to be implemented by upholding three main pillars emphasised in the theme of the 80th BSSN anniversary celebration, namely “Cyber Sovereignty Strengthens National Resilience”.
The three pillars consist of maintaining technological independence so that the nation does not depend on foreign parties, secondly, data security as a strategic national asset that must be protected, and thirdly, system resilience and the ability to recover quickly from various threats.
From all this, BSSN takes on the role of collaborator, initiator, and facilitator to ensure that national cyber sovereignty runs optimally.
“Of course, there are contributions of ideas, encouragement, and support from all stakeholders, whether ministries, institutions, industry, or academics, to realise this as a collective need. Not just BSSN’s need, but our collective need, and more specifically, the needs of this nation,” said Sulistyo.
Specifically discussing the media’s role in creating cyber sovereignty that strengthens national resilience, Sulistyo emphasised the media’s crucial role, particularly in creating national awareness through digital literacy.
According to him, the media has a broad reach to report and disseminate education to the public on cyber security, which is no less important than security in the physical realm.
“Our coverage is so vast with the population, providing literacy on cyber security is not an easy or cheap task. It cannot be carried out by the state alone; the media’s role is extraordinary,” said Sulistyo.
Starting with the Productive Media Award, the awards were given to Tribunnews.com, Kompas.com, LKBN ANTARA (Antaranews.com), Detik.com, and CNN Indonesia.
The first award was given by BSSN because these media outlets have consistently provided cyber security and cryptography literacy to the public and reported on BSSN programmes throughout the past year.
Then there is the Journalistic Work Award given to Livia Kristianti (Antaranews), Fidelis Batalinus (Garuda TV), and Abdi Ryanda Shakti (Tribunnews).
Finally, there is the Best Coverage Award for Tracing the 80th BSSN Anniversary, given to Kukuh Setyono (Liputan6.com Yogyakarta), Maulana Muhammad Fahmi (Suara Merdeka), and Andik Sismanto (Metrosemarang.com).
