BSN targets certifying 1,050 MSMEs annually

The National Standardisation Agency (BSN) is targeting the certification of 1,050 micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) products annually to support competitiveness in the business world. “The hope is that if they receive MSME guidance and then obtain SNI certification, their market penetration can be broader,” said BSN Head Donny Purnomo Januardhi Effyandono in Jakarta on Monday, following a hearing with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI). According to him, support for Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification for MSME players is indeed needed so that the products they produce can compete both domestically and abroad. Donny added that MSME products currently still struggle to compete in the domestic arena, thus requiring an SNI certificate to be accepted in a wider market. He explained that the hearing with Commission VII of the DPR-RI resulted in an agreement to increase MSME product certification to reach 1,050 MSMEs per year. “We are striving to ensure that 1,000 can be certified per year,” he stated. Donny added that currently, out of more than 64 million MSME players spread across Indonesia, only slightly over 1 million have been certified. He continued that this number is very small compared to the total number of MSME players, therefore BSN is working to increase certification achievements. Additionally, BSN is also targeting to conduct outreach to more than 20,000 MSME players to support the certification target of 1,050 MSMEs per year. “Out of a total of around 64 million, up to this year those who have received MSME guidance number about 1,080,000,” he added. During the hearing between Commission VII of the DPR-RI and BSN, an agreement was reached on an additional budget for MSME certification, which was originally targeted at only 105 MSMEs, to become 1,050 MSMEs with a total budget of Rp82 billion, up from the previous Rp4 billion. Meanwhile, the total budget proposal for BSN in 2027 is planned at Rp300 billion.
