BSN reports 9,940 active SNI standards as of May 2026

The National Standardisation Agency (BSN) has stated that as of the end of May 2026, the number of active Indonesian National Standards (SNI) products has reached 9,940, with engineering technology being the most prevalent. “As of the end of May 2026, there are 9,940 active SNIs,” said BSN Head Donny Purnomo Januardhi Effyandono following a hearing with House of Representatives Commission VII in Jakarta on Monday. Data presented by BSN at the hearing indicated that the largest share of active SNIs is in engineering technology, totalling 2,524, followed by agriculture and food technology with 1,990, and special technology in third place with 1,650 active SNIs. Additionally, there are 733 standards for construction, 547 for electronics, information technology and communication, and various other SNI-certified products. Donny stated that SNI certification currently covers 40 percent of all product types in Indonesia, and this will continue to be increased. “In fact, the available SNIs already cover 40 percent of all product types,” he said. He added that SNI certification must be continuously promoted to protect the public and consumers from substandard goods. “SNI should be made mandatory for consumer protection, so that the public can obtain better protection,” he added. Previously, BSN targeted certifying 1,050 micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) products per year to support competitiveness in the business world. According to him, support for SNI certification for MSMEs is necessary so that their products can compete both domestically and abroad. Moreover, Donny noted that MSME products currently still struggle to compete in the domestic market, thus requiring SNI certificates to be accepted in a wider market. He explained that the hearing with House Commission VII resulted in an agreement to increase MSME product certification to 1,050 MSMEs per year.
