BSN Launches Sharia Mortgage Scheme for Muhammadiyah Teachers and Lecturers
PT Bank Syariah Nasional (BSN) has officially launched a housing solution for teachers, lecturers, and employees of Muhammadiyah’s charitable enterprises (AUM) through its KPR Sejahtera scheme. This strategic collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP Muhammadiyah) aims to enhance the welfare of the organisation’s members while supporting sharia financial inclusion.
BSN President Director Alex Sofyan Noor explained that the five-year partnership is designed to ease the organisation’s operations while providing productive financial solutions that directly benefit Muhammadiyah members, teachers, and staff. “The primary objective of this collaboration is to deliver mutually beneficial sharia banking services while safeguarding the economic sustainability of the community,” Alex stated.
The partnership was formalised with the signing of an Operational Cooperation Agreement in Jakarta on Friday (12/6/2026) by BSN’s Director of Network & Retail Funding, Ari Kurniaman, and Muhammadiyah Chairman, Irwan Akib. The event was also attended by Muhammadiyah Treasurer Prof. Hilman Latief, BSN directors, rectors of Muhammadiyah universities in the Greater Jakarta area, and representatives from national property developer associations.
Muhammadiyah Chairman Irwan Akib highlighted the humanistic aspect of the agreement. “We hope BSN will provide concrete solutions through mortgage schemes for teachers, lecturers, and employees who do not yet own a home. This is part of our effort to advance the welfare of superior human resources within the organisation,” Irwan said.
To date, the KPR Sejahtera programme has distributed 980 housing units to Muhammadiyah members, comprising 835 subsidised and 145 non-subsidised units. BSN has also partnered with developers for the Panorama Kemang Bogor housing project, specifically for lecturers and staff of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ), expanding housing access for the organisation’s educators.
Beyond housing, BSN facilitates payroll management for AUM teachers and staff, member savings through BSN Tabungan Berkah Wadiah with an initial deposit of Rp50,000 and no monthly administration fees, as well as productive financing such as AUM working capital with light margin schemes and discounted administration fees. This initiative aligns with Muhammadiyah’s mission to empower the community’s economy from upstream to downstream, spanning education, healthcare, and business units, while leveraging digital platforms like Bale Syariah, Virtual Account, and QRIS networks for transparency and ease of transactions.
