BSMI Marks 24th Milad, Solidifies Humanitarian Commitment to Palestine with Field Hospital Plan
Bulan Sabit Merah Indonesia (BSMI) held the peak of its 24th Milad commemoration in Jakarta on Sunday (12/7). Carrying the theme ‘Kokoh Berkiprah untuk Nusantara dan Dunia’ (Steadfast in Serving the Archipelago and the World), BSMI reaffirmed its commitment to providing health services and humanitarian action, both in Indonesia and in various crisis areas worldwide, particularly Palestine.
The event was attended by the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattari, Chairman of the BSMI National Board, dr. M. Djazuli Ambari, and Chairman of the BSMI Advisory Board, Prof Dr dr Basuki Supartono SpOT, along with other leaders, humanitarian partners, health workers, volunteers, and national figures.
In his remarks, dr. M. Djazuli Ambari stated that throughout its 24-year journey, BSMI has strived to provide professional health services that uphold humanitarian values without discriminating based on ethnicity, religion, race, or group. He noted that the Milad theme reflects BSMI’s determination to strengthen humanitarian service domestically while expanding its contribution to the global community.
During the event, BSMI launched a plan to build an Indonesian Field Hospital for Palestine, to be located in the El Arish area of Egypt, serving as a medical centre for victims of the Gaza conflict. The facility is expected to provide emergency services, surgical procedures, inpatient care, and medical support. Djazuli described the hospital as a major national effort to strengthen humanitarian support for Palestine, expressing hope that it would expand healthcare access for conflict victims and serve as a tangible symbol of Indonesian solidarity.
Prof Dr dr Basuki Supartono emphasised that the project is a government-to-government initiative, with coordination already established with the Palestinian and Egyptian ambassadors, as well as the Egyptian Ministry of Health. He noted that a follow-up visit to Cairo is planned for 11 August. He stressed that BSMI’s programmes prove that humanity knows no borders, and that supporting the Palestinian people is an obligation when their rights and dignity are being violated.
The Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattari, expressed his appreciation for Indonesia, BSMI, and all humanitarian activists committed to supporting the struggle and independence of Palestine.
