BSKDN Strengthens Regional Governments' Efforts to Reduce Unemployment Rates
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Internal Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN) of the Ministry of Home Affairs held a Regional Heads Presentation event as part of the Appreciation of Regional Government Performance for reducing unemployment rates. BSKDN Head Yusharto Huntoyungo, in his address, emphasised that the Appreciation of Regional Government Performance is a strategic instrument to strengthen local governance based on performance and results (result-oriented governance). “This assessment does not merely look at numerical achievements but also evaluates policy quality, innovations implemented, and real impacts felt by the community,” Yusharto stated in his remarks in Jakarta on Wednesday. Through this mechanism, the government not only provides recognition but also conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of policies and programmes run in the regions. The event was attended by regional governments from various parts of Indonesia as part of efforts to encourage more measurable, impactful, and sustainable regional performance improvements. The event took place virtually from the BSKDN Command Centre in Jakarta. He explained that the assessment in the Appreciation of Regional Government Performance covers four main dimensions: reducing unemployment rates, alleviating poverty and reducing stunting, economic development and inflation control, as well as entrepreneurship and creative funding. Specifically for the dimension of reducing unemployment rates, the assessment process is coordinated by BSKDN involving a judging team from ministries/institutions, academics, and practitioners in the employment sector. This approach is expected to provide more contextual assessments in line with the challenges and potentials of each region. Yusharto stressed that unemployment rates reflect development challenges that must be addressed seriously and sustainably. Therefore, targeted policies based on data, supported by innovation and cross-sector collaboration, are needed. “Reducing unemployment rates must be positioned as a priority agenda that is not only important economically but also strategic in maintaining social stability and improving community welfare,” he said. Yusharto also highlighted the importance of the role of regional governments in designing and implementing adaptive policies according to the characteristics of their respective regions. According to him, the success of regions in suppressing unemployment rates is largely determined by the quality of leadership, programme effectiveness, and the ability to utilise local potentials. Through this presentation event, regional heads or deputy regional heads directly present achievements, strategies, and innovations that have been carried out in lowering unemployment rates. This forum is not only an evaluation arena but also a space for sharing best practices among regions. “We want to emphasise that this event is not merely to determine who is the best, but more than that, to build a collective learning ecosystem among regions,” he concluded.
