BSKDN: Intellectual Property Protection Part of Government Innovation Governance
The Domestic Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) continues to strengthen intellectual property protection as part of innovation governance within the government. This effort is being made so that the various works and innovations produced are not only utilised to support the administration of government, but also have certainty of protection and can be developed as knowledge assets in the long term.
Head of BSKDN Yusharto Huntoyungo said that government innovation needs to be managed sustainably so that it does not stop merely as ideas or work results. According to him, intellectual property protection is an important part of ensuring that works and innovations can continue to be developed in an orderly and secure manner.
“We need to place intellectual property protection as part of innovation governance. Protection is not intended to limit creativity and innovation. On the contrary, protection provides certainty so that the works and innovations produced can be developed in a more orderly, secure and sustainable manner,” said Yusharto when opening the Socialisation on Strengthening Intellectual Property Protection in Supporting Policy Innovation and Digital Transformation of Government at the BSKDN Command Center, Jakarta, Thursday (13/8/2026).
Furthermore, Yusharto explained that the need for innovation is increasingly important along with the development of digital technology and the growing complexity of government affairs. Digital transformation, he said, is not sufficiently realised merely through the development of applications or the digitalisation of administrative processes, but also requires the government’s ability to manage information, knowledge, and the various innovations produced.
“In that process, ideas, works, innovations, systems, applications, methodologies, and various knowledge products produced by government officials are assets that have strategic value for the organisation,” he said.
He added that BSKDN together with the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) have a role in producing research, studies, analyses, evaluations, and strategic policy recommendations. These various outputs need to be managed so that they do not stop merely as documents, but can be utilised and developed into knowledge assets that support the administration of government.
One of the innovations developed by BSKDN is SINTESIS (Smart Integrated System for Strategic Information and Evaluation Services). The platform was developed to support information management, data analysis, identification of strategic issues, utilisation of study results, and the preparation of strategic policy recommendation materials.
