Plans by PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BSI) to increase the portion of publicly traded shares (free float) will not materialise in the near future. Although targeted to rise to 15 percent, the increase is confirmed not to take place this year. BSI’s Deputy Director Bob Tyasika Ananta stated that the company still intends to boost the free float gradually. However, this step is still in the study phase and depends on the decision of the shareholders. “There is a plan in that direction. At least, we will increase it gradually first, then to 15 percent,” he said when met after the Halal Bihalal Forum Group (FG) of Sharia Economy and Finance PP-ISEI 2026 at BSI Tower in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/4/2026) afternoon. Currently, BSI’s free float portion is recorded at around 9.9 percent. This figure is still below the new target set by the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), namely a minimum of 15 percent. A similar standard also serves as a reference for global indices like MSCI. For retail investors, an increase in free float typically impacts share liquidity. The larger the portion of shares in the public domain, the more active the transactions in the market. This condition makes shares easier to buy and sell, and prices are deemed to better reflect market conditions. Bob explained that one option being studied is through the role of the controlling shareholder, namely BPI Danantara. However, the final scheme has not yet been decided.
