PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., or BSI, has traded 8.06 tonnes of gold through its gold bank (bullion bank) services, with customer numbers exceeding 1.3 million as of June 2026.

The number of gold bank customers rose 700 per cent year on year, driving fee-based income (FBI) from the gold business up by 712 per cent year on year.

“Through our bullion services, we want to make gold investment easier, safer and more affordable, so that people can begin their gold journey in building long-term assets,” said BSI’s Director of Finance and Strategy, Ade Cahyo Nugroho, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Ade views gold as an increasingly popular choice for preserving asset value, amid challenging economic conditions and a public that tends to be more selective in investing.

According to the company, this positive performance reflects growing public trust in gold as a long-term investment instrument. This momentum has strengthened since the company obtained its gold bank licence and launched the bullion bank service itself.

The company said ease of access has been one of the main factors behind rising public interest. Through the BYOND by BSI application, people can now own gold starting from Rp 50,000, making gold investment more inclusive, accessible, secure and practical.

Customers can buy and sell gold in real time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This digital transformation has broadened investment access for people across all segments without the need to visit a branch office.

In addition to strengthening digital services, BSI continues to accelerate physical gold market penetration through BSI Gold. BSI Gold is currently present at official partner gold shops located in the national gold hub.

This presence marks the first step in expanding the BSI Gold distribution network, which going forward is aimed at reaching gold shops across various regions of Indonesia to make it more accessible to the public.

Ade said that the growth of the bullion business not only strengthens BSI’s position as the bank with a national sharia gold ecosystem, but also serves as an increasingly significant source of fee-based revenue growth for the company.

The bullion service complements BSI’s gold ecosystem, which previously offered gold instalment plans, gold pawn services and BSI Gold sales.

In total, outstanding gold pawn and gold instalment financing reached Rp 30.5 trillion as of June 2026, growing by 80.50 per cent.

As of July 2026, the gold business has driven fee-based income to around Rp 2.10 trillion, or double the figure recorded in the same period last year.

The company expressed optimism about the continued strengthening of the gold business outlook. This comes amid growing public awareness of investment diversification and wealth protection, as well as rising education on using gold to achieve various future goals, such as performing the hajj, buying a home, or meeting other financial planning needs.

With an increasingly complete bullion ecosystem, the company aims to make the gold business one of its main growth engines whilst strengthening sharia financial inclusion in Indonesia.
