JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BSI recorded a net profit of Rp 2.2 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, representing a 17.1% year-on-year (yoy) growth. BSI’s President Director, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, stated that this performance was supported by growth in third-party funds (DPK), low-cost funds, and financing that continued to expand while maintaining quality. “The profit we report of Rp 2.2 trillion also places BSI in fifth position among national banks, both in terms of profit and assets,” he said during a virtual press conference on Tuesday (12/5/2026). BSI’s third-party funds (DPK) for this period amounted to Rp 376.8 trillion, or a 17.99% yoy growth. The DPK growth was primarily driven by the low-cost funds segment or current account savings account (CASA), which rose 21.36% yoy to Rp 236.2 trillion. This condition propelled the company’s net profit ratio in the first quarter of 2026, with indicators of Return on Assets (ROA) at 2.53% and Return on Equity (ROE) at 19.36%. He detailed that the total CASA consisted of demand deposits of Rp 71.7 trillion, up 24.17% yoy, and savings of Rp 164.5 trillion, increasing 20.18% yoy. According to Anggoro, BSI’s savings growth was the highest compared to other major national banks. This demonstrates the company’s strategy in strengthening low-cost fund mobilisation through Hajj savings, which has proven effective. “We see the Hajj potential increasingly rising, the youth potential increasingly rising, and we view that as a significant opportunity for BSI to grow. And recently, we saw that it became one of the major supports for our savings,” he said. He revealed that BSI recorded 7.25 million Hajj savings customers up to the first quarter of 2026. Of that number, around 1.2 million customers came from the younger generation or millennial and Gen Z groups. The company assesses that the high enthusiasm of the public for Hajj has become one of the main supports for business growth. BSI’s data shows that the number of national Hajj registrants increased from 286,400 in 2023 to 422,300 in 2025. On the other hand, BSI’s market share in Hajj registrations also increased from 49.5% in 2023 to 53.6% in 2025. Of the total 422,300 national Hajj registrants last year, 226,400 registered through BSI. For the embarkation phase, BSI also dominated with a portion of 83.5% of the total 2026 Hajj pilgrim quota coming from customers who registered through BSI.
