BSI aims to ensure that the nation’s best talents can still attend university, develop, and become future leaders.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has launched the BSI Scholarship Programme for 5,250 students and pupils from underprivileged families who have strong academic achievements and leadership potential.

BSI’s Director, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, said that this scholarship programme is not just educational assistance, but a long-term investment to produce Indonesia’s superior generation.

“There should be no bright children who lose their future just because of financial problems. BSI wants to ensure that the nation’s best talents can still attend university, develop, and become future leaders. This is the meaning of the existence of Islamic banks, that business growth must have a real impact on the community,” said Anggoro in a statement in Jakarta, Friday.

Anggoro said that this programme is also a major differentiator for the Islamic banking industry, where the company’s profit growth must be in line with social benefits through the optimization of corporate zakat.

“The stronger BSI’s performance, the greater the contribution we can make to the community. Therefore, zakat is not just an obligation, but an instrument of community empowerment that can break the chain of poverty through education,” said Anggoro.

The BSI Scholarship is a zakat-based scholarship programme that was launched in 2021. To date, the programme has reached more than 10,162 beneficiaries, consisting of 7,962 students and 2,200 pupils.

The company recorded that 1,500 scholarship recipients have graduated and are now working in various national companies or continuing their education at leading state universities in Indonesia.

The BSI Scholarship has seven programme categories, ranging from pupil, excellence, inspiration, talent, achievement, affirmation to Talenta KIP-K BSI.

For the pupil category, the programme is aimed at high-achieving high school students from less affluent families.

Meanwhile, the student category is intended for active students from BSI partner campuses who have academic and non-academic achievements and come from disadvantaged families.

In addition to providing financial assistance and living expenses, BSI also equips the recipients with capacity-building programmes, including leadership workshops, character strengthening, Islamic economic literacy, social community training, and career preparation programmes for final-year students.

In addition, the company opens up wider opportunities through access to employee recruitment in various fields according to the recipients’ competencies.

With this approach, the scholarship programme is expected to not only produce academic graduates, but also create superior human resources who are resilient, adaptable and have high social awareness.

Throughout 2025, BSI distributed corporate zakat of IDR 289 billion through the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) to strengthen the community’s economy.

The distribution has benefited more than 12,500 beneficiaries in the field of education, 223,000 beneficiaries in the field of humanitarian aid, and thousands of other beneficiaries in the fields of economy, health and da’wah.
