The number of Hajj savings customers at PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, known as BSI, reached 7.8 million people as of July 2026. Approximately 46 per cent of these customers belong to Generation Z and younger age groups.

SEVP Funding and Transaction at BSI, Ida Triana Widowati, stated that the number of BSI Hajj savings customers increased by approximately one million people year-to-date. This growth indicates that more members of the public are beginning to prepare for the Hajj pilgrimage from an early age.

“The younger generation today does not only view savings as a place to store funds. They are beginning to view finance as part of a journey to achieve something meaningful for life. Therefore, we see more young people starting to prepare for Hajj and Umrah from an early age,” Ida said in a short message on Monday (15/9/2026).

In terms of funds, BSI Hajj Savings grew by 16.02 per cent year-on-year to reach Rp17.1 trillion as of July 2026.

Ida noted that the changing behaviour of the younger generation means that savings are no longer merely seen as a place to store money. Preparing for Hajj and Umrah is becoming one of the financial goals planned from a young age.

“When young people start saving for Hajj, what they are preparing is not just funds. They are preparing for a journey that holds spiritual and personal value,” she added.

To support the habit of saving from an early age, BSI provides Hajj Savings with an initial deposit of Rp100,000 and no monthly administration fees. Account opening and savings planning can also be conducted through the BYOND by BSI application.

Customers can utilise the autodebit feature to make regular deposits. BSI is also developing a Hajj and Umrah ecosystem that includes access to travel partners, religious guidance, transactions during travel, and digital services.

BSI also continues to socialise the ‘Program Indonesia Berhaji’ (Indonesia Hajj Programme) to expand access and increase public awareness in preparing for the Hajj pilgrimage from an early age.
