BSI Gold Accounts Surge Past 1.7 Million
PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BRIS) has revealed that gold account openings at the bank reached 1.7 million over the past year. In light of this growth, BSI President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo said the bank continues to encourage the growth of gold savings.
As part of this effort, BSI is also promoting a gold transfer service. This has already been implemented by the company when disbursing bonuses to a number of employees.
“So they feel that with this savings account, the bonus is not immediately spent. Because if it is sold, it feels like a waste,” said Anggoro in his remarks at the Signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) on Additional Service Benefits between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and BSI at Grha BPJamsostek on Friday (10/7/2026).
In addition, since this year’s Eid al-Fitr, BSI has been encouraging customers to give holiday bonuses (THR) in the form of angpau containing gold. This is because gold savings tend to last longer than cash, which can be spent quickly.
“Because if you give an angpau in the form of cash, the children’s money ends up with their mother. Right? The money disappears. So with gold, it goes directly into the child’s account. Children are happy to receive gold angpau because their mother cannot spend it,” said Anggoro.
According to him, gold is a safer investment product. Although gold prices have tended to flatten over the past three months, Anggoro predicts prices will still rise towards the end of the year, provided the Iran-US conflict subsides.
In addition to gold savings, BSI is also promoting a gold instalment product. Anggoro said Indonesia’s largest Islamic bank offers 0% down payment on its gold instalment product.
“And what is interesting about gold instalments is that if you buy gold at the current price, which is currently low at Rp2.6 million, then instal it over six years — whether you want to buy 10 grams, 100 grams, or even one kilo, you can. So, when you instal it over five years, if the price has changed by the time you receive it, you get that new price. But your instalments remain the same as when you first bought it,” he explained.
