BSI Explore 2026 Students Launch Book Donation Drive for SDN Karang Indah 1 Pupils
A single book may seem simple, but for a child it can be a doorway to a much wider world. It was this spirit that prompted students of Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) through the BSI Explore 2026 programme to hold an Open Book Donation drive for pupils of SDN Karang Indah 1, Karang Indah Village, Bojongmangu District, Bekasi Regency, on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
The BSI Explore 2026 team assigned to Karang Indah Village is chaired by Kohar Hanapi, with members Aulia Rahma Suryani, Derina Rizkia Zahra, Fazryan Syauqi, Laura Syahnanda Zulfia, and Nurulita Khusnul Khotimah. The programme is part of a series of community service activities carried out by students during their time in Karang Indah Village.
Through this movement, UBSI students invited the public, families, communities and colleagues in the surrounding area to share books that are still fit to read while jointly expanding literacy access for children in the area. The books collected are not limited to one type of reading. UBSI students opened the opportunity for the public to donate textbooks, children’s stories, encyclopaedias, general knowledge books, novels, and motivational books suited to the age and needs of primary school pupils.
To widen the reach of the donation drive, information about the programme was also disseminated through social media. This step also served as a way for UBSI students to use digital technology to connect public concern with educational needs in the village.
Kohar Hanapi, head of the BSI Explore 2026 group in Karang Indah Village, said the programme is not only oriented towards collecting books, but also serves as a space to build shared concern for children’s education. He believes one book can open many dreams. For that reason, the programme was presented as a platform for anyone who wishes to share knowledge through books.
“Alhamdulillah, we received a very positive response. This is proof that concern for education remains very high,” said Kohar.
Public involvement, he explained, is an important part of the programme’s sustainability. The more people participate, the greater the opportunity for children to obtain reading materials that support the learning process while broadening their horizons.
The Open Book Donation drive also received mentoring from BSI Explore 2026 Field Supervisor RR Roosita Cindrakasih. She appreciated the students’ initiative in identifying community needs and translating them into a work programme that is simple yet has long-term benefits. Students not only learn to design work programmes, but also learn to understand community needs and find relevant solutions.
“This book donation programme is an example that social concern can be realised through simple steps whose benefits are enormous for children’s futures,” said RR Roosita.
Once all donations have been collected, the books will go through a sorting process based on condition and reading category. The selected books are then cleaned and packed before being handed over to SDN Karang Indah 1 so they can be used as an additional reading collection for pupils.
The presence of a new book collection is expected not only to add reading materials at the school, but also to encourage the growth of reading habits among pupils. Furthermore, the students hope the books can become a medium for broadening horizons, increasing creativity, and fostering children’s courage to get to know the world beyond their immediate environment.
For the BSI Explore 2026 students, the activity serves as a reminder that community service does not always have to begin with something big. A book that is no longer used at home can find new meaning when it changes hands to a child who needs it.
Through this activity, the BSI Explore 2026 students of Karang Indah Village seek to deliver a contribution that is not only felt while the programme is running, but can also leave benefits after they return. The spirit of sharing books is expected to continue to grow so that a culture of literacy can become part of the life of the Karang Indah Village community.
BSI Explore 2026 is a flagship community service programme organised by UBSI. The programme provides selected students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies directly within the community. Through BSI Explore 2026, UBSI continues to encourage students not only to become academic individuals, but also to be present as part of society, able to identify problems, build collaboration, and deliver relevant solutions.
