BSI completes IT transformation to serve 40 million customers by 2030
PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BSI) has completed its information technology (IT) transformation to strengthen system capacity and digital service quality, aiming to serve 40 million customers by 2030. “This transformation is necessary because the company must grow. The reason the IT system needs upgrading is that we want to provide services on par with other large banks, and that is also the expectation of our customers,” said BSI President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo during a media gathering at BSI’s head office in Jakarta on Wednesday. The company is targeting 40 million customers by 2030, up from around 24 million currently. It also aims for assets of Rp1,000 trillion and a return on equity (ROE) above 25% by 2030. By that year, BSI also aspires to be among the top five largest Islamic banks in the world. Anggoro explained that over the past year, BSI has recorded significant growth from its dual licences as a sharia bank and a gold bank. The number of customers increased to more than 24 million as of April 2026, following the gold bank licence in February 2025 and the upgrade in status to a state-owned enterprise in early 2026. The company views that system capacity needs to be expanded to anticipate future growth. Therefore, BSI completed the migration of its core banking system from the R10 to the R24 platform in mid-May 2026. The modernisation is projected to become the foundation for business expansion until 2030 while opening more room for digital service innovation, particularly on BYOND by BSI for retail customers and BEWIZE by BSI for institutional (wholesale) customers. The core banking migration process involved around 1,500 cross-functional personnel. The entire process was carried out in stages through various rehearsals, under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Danantara to ensure implementation was safe, controlled, and transparent. Post-migration, availability across all BSI channels reached 99.99%, making transactions through digital channels and branches smoother. The transformation also improved operational efficiency by up to 80%, accelerated the close of business process, and increased system capacity to support digital business expansion and product innovation. “The room to grow customers and innovate new features on BYOND is very wide because the capacity used is still below 10%. Customers will feel the benefits of BSI’s new IT strength and speed,” Anggoro said. As of May 2026, BSI posted an unaudited net profit of Rp3.39 trillion, growing 16.73% year-on-year (yoy). Total assets reached Rp444 trillion, third-party funds stood at Rp372 trillion, and financing amounted to Rp335 trillion with maintained quality. In the same period, BSI’s mobile banking service was used by more than 10 million users with transaction values exceeding Rp450 trillion. Meanwhile, BEWIZE continued to record growth in users and transactions as a driver of the wholesale business.
