Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) has successfully completed its information technology (IT) system transformation, laying the foundation to accelerate business growth and strengthen its digital services. The transformation is part of the state-owned lender’s strategic agenda over the past year, carried out with the active support and supervision of the Indonesia Investment Authority (Danantara).

BSI President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo stated that the technological overhaul was a strategic necessity amid the rapid digitalisation of the financial industry and the bank’s own business expansion. “BSI now stands alongside major banks. Customer expectations demand that our services and systems match those of large banks. We have worked to ensure our services meet these expectations,” he said in an official statement on Wednesday.

The migration of the core banking system from R10 to R24, completed in mid-May 2026, was one of the bank’s largest technology projects, involving approximately 1,500 cross-functional personnel. The process was carried out in stages with rigorous testing and under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Danantara to ensure a safe, controlled, and transparent implementation.

Anggoro noted that the IT transformation has increased operational efficiency by up to 80%, accelerated the Close of Business (COB) process, and expanded system capacity to support digital business expansion and product innovation. The availability of all BSI channels has now reached 99.99%, ensuring smooth transactions across digital and branch networks. “The room to grow customers and innovate new features on BYOND is vast because current capacity utilisation is still below 10%. Customers will directly benefit from the strength and speed of BSI’s new IT system,” he added.

To support this growth, BSI continues to strengthen its digital services through BYOND by BSI for the retail segment and BEWIZE by BSI for institutional and wholesale clients. As of May 2026, the mobile banking service BYOND had been used by more than 10 million users with transaction values exceeding IDR 450 trillion, while BEWIZE continues to record growth in users and transactions as a driver of wholesale business.

BSI has also recorded significant growth from its dual licences as a sharia bank and a bullion bank. The number of customers increased to more than 24 million as of April 2026, following the acquisition of the Bank Emas licence in February 2025 and the upgrade of BSI’s status to a Persero in early 2026. “This status strengthens BSI’s position as part of the strategic state-owned enterprise ecosystem,” Anggoro said.

With the completed IT transformation and a strengthened ecosystem alongside Danantara, the bank is optimistic about becoming a national driver of the sharia economy. “We are ready to deliver modern, inclusive, and competitive financial services,” Anggoro concluded.
