BSI Awards Scholarship to NASA-Recognised Student Until High School

PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) has awarded a prestigious scholarship to Ibrahim Al Abrar, a primary school student from Boyolali, Central Java, who earned appreciation from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for his accomplishments in science and technology. The scholarship will support Abrar’s education through to senior high school. In addition to the scholarship, BSI is also sending Abrar and his parents on an Umrah pilgrimage. The company hopes this support will help Abrar develop his skills in information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), programming, and digital innovation. BSI President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo stated that Indonesia needs more digital talent capable of addressing the challenges of global technological development. He emphasised that investing in high-achieving children is a long-term investment for the nation’s future. ‘Ibrahim Al Abrar’s achievement proves that Indonesian children have extraordinary potential to become world-class innovators. Through this Prestasi Scholarship, BSI aims to be part of the journey in producing a generation of digital talent that will make the nation more competitive globally,’ Anggoro said. The scholarship is part of BSI’s commitment to improving human resources quality through the BSI Scholarship programme, which is funded by corporate zakat. Since 2021, the programme has reached more than 10,162 beneficiaries, comprising 7,962 university students and 2,200 school students from 188 higher education institutions and 1,170 schools across Indonesia. A total of 1,500 scholarship recipients have completed their education and are now working at various national companies or pursuing further studies. In addition to tuition assistance and living allowances, scholarship recipients receive leadership training, character building, sharia economic literacy, community service opportunities, and job preparation. In 2026, BSI is reopening the scholarship programme for 5,250 students from underprivileged families who demonstrate academic excellence but face economic constraints. Anggoro expressed hope that the programme will broaden access to education and encourage the emergence of more Indonesian scientists, engineers, programmers, researchers, and innovators in the future.
