PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BSI) together with Danantara Indonesia is accelerating the strengthening of the people’s economy by building an integrated MSME empowerment ecosystem. Through 35 MSME Centres, BSI UMKM Centers, and 23 BSI-assisted villages across various regions, BSI is not only providing financing access but also preparing infrastructure so that business actors can upgrade, become bankable, and penetrate broader markets. BSI President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that MSMEs have been the backbone of the national economy and the main entry point for developing Indonesia’s halal ecosystem. “Because of that, BSI is promoting an end-to-end approach, starting from business mentoring, human resource capacity building, halal certification, sharia financing access, digitalisation, to expanding domestic and global markets,” Anggoro said. BSI currently serves more than 340,000 MSME customers. From this number, BSI and Danantara have also built four UMKM centres to provide specialised coaching so that these MSMEs can upgrade. Currently, more than 6,000 MSMEs receive mentoring from the BSI UMKM Centers. The BSI UMKM Centers located in Aceh, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar function as training, business consulting, marketing, and financing access hubs, as well as showcasing products from assisted MSMEs that are not only surviving but growing into competitive enterprises. “This is in line with our commitment to making MSMEs not just about financing, but an ecosystem that truly enables business actors to upgrade. This aligns with the government’s vision of creating a national MSME ecosystem,” Anggoro said. The strengthening and mentoring of MSMEs are carried out through five main strategies: improving human resource quality, accelerating halal certification, developing the halal supply chain from upstream to downstream, providing sharia financing, and strengthening business innovation and digitalisation. As part of this ecosystem, BSI has developed 35 MSME Centres supported by zakat funds to empower mustahik business actors to become legal entities. To support MSME development in rural areas, BSI has also established 23 Assisted Villages that optimise local economic potential through village-based community empowerment. This commitment is further reinforced by the distribution of retail and MSME financing, which reached Rp54.80 trillion as of May 2026, growing 11.14 percent year-on-year to more than 340,000 business actors through KUR Syariah, Micro, and MSME financing. Meanwhile, BSI is accelerating the digital transformation of MSMEs through the BSI UMKM Portal, BEWIZE by BSI, BSI QRIS, and BYOND by BSI to make business actors more adaptive to the digital economy. “When MSMEs upgrade, the benefits do not stop at one business actor. The impact will create jobs, improve community welfare, strengthen the halal industry, and drive regional economies. This is the economic value and role of Islamic banking, as well as the social value that we continue to build together with Danantara Indonesia,” Anggoro said.
