Brutal Murder of Sleeping Ride-Hailing Driver in Tangerang: Suspect Arrested
An online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver with the initials ATP in Tangerang City, Banten, has been murdered. The perpetrator, known as Rahmat Dimas, has now been apprehended by police for the heinous act he committed.
The stabbing took place at an ojol basecamp in the Kosambi area of Tangerang City on Sunday (12/7/2026) at 03.50 WIB. At the time, the victim ATP was asleep when he was suddenly stabbed by an unknown individual.
“The victim was an ojol driver. The victim lost a Honda PCX motorcycle and a mobile phone,” said the Head of the Public Relations Section of the Tangerang City Metro Police, AKP Iwan Heristiawan, when contacted by journalists on Tuesday (14/7).
At the time, the victim’s colleagues saw the perpetrator arrive at the ojol basecamp. The perpetrator then carried out his brutal act, making off with the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone.
According to Iwan, the victim died at the scene. The victim’s body was evacuated to Tangerang Regency Regional General Hospital.
“The victim was stabbed while sleeping. The victim died at the location, having suffered stab wounds to the neck,” he said.

The Perpetrator’s Motive Revealed by Police
Police have revealed the motive behind Rahmat Dimas’s killing of and theft from the online motorcycle taxi driver with the initials ATP in the Kosambi area. The perpetrator admitted he was under financial pressure for his wedding.
“Regarding the perpetrator’s motive, when we carried out the interrogation, he admitted that he was under pressure in his life related to being forced by his parents to marry soon,” said the Head of Unit V of the Resmob Sub-Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, in his statement on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
The perpetrator claimed he was carrying a knife with the intention of ending his own life. However, Arief continued, as the perpetrator passed through the location, he saw the victim sleeping, which gave rise to the intention to commit theft.
“But along the way, he saw someone sleeping, namely the victim, and next to him there was an unattended motorcycle. He wanted to steal that motorcycle,” he said.
“After seeing the victim fast asleep, the perpetrator tried to reach into the victim’s pocket to take the keys, the motorcycle keys. When the perpetrator took the motorcycle keys and reached into the victim’s pocket, the victim woke up and resisted, so the perpetrator stabbed the knife into the victim’s body,” he added.
Rahmat Dimas Named a Suspect
Police have named Rahmat Dimas as a suspect in the case of the murder and motorcycle theft of ojol driver ATP. The suspect has now been detained.
“The individual RD has been named a suspect and placed in detention,” said the Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Wednesday (15/7/2026).
The perpetrator has been charged under the article on premeditated murder. In addition, the perpetrator has been charged under the article on theft with violence.
“The articles suspected are premeditated murder and/or murder and/or theft with violence resulting in death,” he explained.
“As referred to in Article 459 and/or Article 458 and/or Article 479 Paragraph 3 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code,” he added.
