Brunei National Dies After Assault by Social Media Influencer in Blok M

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A 30-year-old Brunei national, MHF, died after being assaulted by social media influencer MIA in Blok M, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

“Confirmed, the Brunei national died at the hospital on May 16, 2026,” said Kompol Dimitri Mahendra, Head of Unit 1 of the Mobile Brigade, Criminal Investigation Department, Jakarta Metropolitan Police, in a message to Kompas.com on Monday, May 25, 2026.

“The suspect allegedly struck the victim once on the head with a paper bag containing glass bottles, causing him to fall,” said Budi when contacted separately.

The victim was immediately taken to Pertamina Central Hospital for treatment. However, the head injury proved fatal, and MHF died ten days later on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Meanwhile, the suspect, also a Brunei national named MIA, was arrested in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Monday, May 25, 2026.

“The suspect has been taken to Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters for further investigation,” Budi stated.

Police will also coordinate with South Jakarta Immigration for further action against the suspect.

A woman was seen intervening as the two approached each other. The victim appeared to make several statements while pointing at the suspect. Later, on the roadside, the suspect struck the victim on the head with an object, causing him to fall and become motionless.
