Brunei National Assaulted by Social Media Influencer in Blok M, Report Filed After Victim's Death
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The assault of a Brunei national in the Blok M area of South Jakarta by a social media influencer was only reported to police after the victim’s death.
Kebayoran Baru Police Station Chief AKBP Nugrahadi Kusuma said police received information about the incident from the victim’s friend on 18 May 2026. The victim, MHF (30), was declared dead on 16 May 2026 after 10 days of intensive treatment.
“We only received the information on the 18th [of May] because one of the victim’s friends contacted us. We then verified what happened,” Nugrahadi told reporters at the South Jakarta Police Station on Tuesday (26/5/2026).
Police then requested the victim’s family to file a report. However, as the family resides in Brunei Darussalam, the report was filed by the victim’s friends with family approval on 20 May 2026.
Following this, police proceeded to the scene and collected statements from witnesses.
“Eventually, the victim’s friends, armed with a power of attorney from the family, filed a police report at our station. We have handled it and interviewed witnesses at the scene, confirming the incident did occur there,” Nugrahadi explained.
Following the investigation, the suspect was arrested on Monday (25/5/2026) by the Resmob Subdirectorate of the Jakarta Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.
The suspect is suspected of hitting the victim with a paper bag containing glass bottles, causing him to fall unconscious.
The incident was captured by CCTV footage from a minimarket opposite the hotel where the victim was staying.
In a video uploaded by @viraljakartaselatan on Instagram, the victim is seen sitting on a small chair. The suspect, wearing black, approaches the victim, while a woman intervenes to mediate. The victim appears to be speaking and gesturing towards the suspect. On the pavement edge, the suspect then strikes the victim on the head, causing him to fall and become motionless.
