The assault by Brunei national and influencer Muhammad Irman Ali, known as Woodyrman (33), on fellow Brunei citizen MHF (30), is suspected to have stemmed from a personal dispute.

“Initial investigations indicate that the verbal altercation and physical confrontation between the victim and perpetrator were due to personal issues, as both parties knew each other,” said Ipda Breggy Yesaya Immanuel, head of the Special Team (Katimsus) of the Resmob Subdirectorate at Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate, in a video statement to reporters on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

However, police are still investigating the exact motive behind the assault, including the personal issues that led to the incident.

During the altercation, Woodyrman threw a glass bottle from his paper bag at the victim’s head, causing him to fall unconscious. MHF was taken to Pertamina Central Hospital with a head injury, left eye bruising, and a left collarbone fracture. After 10 days of treatment, the victim died.

“The victim was in a coma and his condition deteriorated, leading to his death on 16 May,” Breggy stated.

Friends of the victim reported the incident two days after MHF’s death. Police seized CCTV footage from the area and arrested Woodyrman on Monday, 25 May 2026. He has since been charged with assault resulting in death.

The suspect faces charges under Article 466(3) and Article 468(2) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), which carry a maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment.

As the investigation continues, police are coordinating with South Jakarta Immigration Office and Interpol, as both the victim and suspect are foreign nationals.

“This involves foreign nationals, so we have communicated with Interpol and Brunei’s police have filed a report,” said AKBP Nugrahadi Kusuma, Police Chief of Kebayoran Baru District, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
