Brunei expels illegal RI workers

CILACAP, Central Java (JP): The Brunei Darussalam government has expelled 19 illegal Indonesian workers from Cilacap and Banyumas, an official said yesterday.

The Ministry of Manpower's Cilacap office chairman, Apon Suryana, told The Jakarta Post that the expulsion of workers Wednesday occurred because they had fake work visas issued by illegal manpower firms.

Suryana said his office was currently investigating manpower brokers providing services for the employment of workers overseas. "Many Jakarta-based companies operate in Cilacap luring local people to work overseas," he said.

He also urged local people not to be easily enticed by attractive job offerings and big wages overseas.

Rather than ending up being cheated, he said, it was better for them to apply for jobs through official manpower agencies registered at the local manpower branch office. (wah)
