Brunei arrests 20 KL cultists
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Reuters): Brunei said it has arrested 20
people, including foreigners, believed to be members of a shadowy
Muslim cult which staged a daring arms heist in neighboring
Malaysia early this month.
The detainees were being held under internal security laws for
their suspected involvement with the Malaysian-based Al-Ma'unah
cult, the Internal Security Department said in a statement issued
on Thursday but seen on Friday.
The statement did not say when the 20 were arrested or how
many of those detained were Brunei citizens and how many were
foreigners.
But it said those arrested were not directly involved in the
July 2 armory raid in Malaysia. Islam is the official religion in
both oil-rich Brunei and secular Malaysia which share borders on
the Borneo island.
