BRT bus stops begin construction; 232 stops spread across Bandung City
Bus stops for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service at several locations in Bandung City have begun to be built. The Bandung City Department of Transportation (Dinas Perhubungan, Dishub) says a total of 232 bus stops will be constructed in Bandung as part of the expansion of the BRT service in the Bandung Basin. Head of the Facilities and Infrastructure Section of Dishub Bandung, Ferlian Hadi, said on Friday (6/3) that the construction of these stops is part of a Ministry of Transport project covering the Bandung Basin area. ‘For off-corridor stops there are 256 stops in the Bandung Basin area. Of that total, 232 stops are in Bandung City and the remaining 24 are in Cimahi,’ he said. According to Ferlian, the hundreds of stops will be spread across 22 districts in Bandung City. The stops will be categorised into three types. Of the 232 stops in Bandung City, 172 are bus poles or pole-mounted stop signs, 80 are small shelters, and 4 are large shelters. For the large stops or big shelters, construction is planned at four strategic locations: Bandung Hall Station, Jalan Merdeka, Summarecon Mall Bandung, and Kiaracondong Station. ‘In terms of road status, 38 stops are on national roads, 45 on provincial roads, and 149 on city roads,’ he noted. In addition to off-corridor stops, Ferlian added that on-corridor stops will also be built on dedicated BRT lanes. There will be around 37 stops with a separated-lane concept, similar to a busway system. ‘On-corridor lanes are dedicated, whereas off-corridor use mixed traffic or share with other vehicles,’ he explained. Currently, off-corridor stops have started at several locations. According to Dishub data, around 27 stops have begun works. Some are in the Soekarno-Hatta area, around GBLA Stadium, Jalan Ramdan, BKR, Wastukancana, Dago, and Jalan Merdeka. Work remains in the early stages, such as demolition and site preparation. ‘Based on the Ministry of Transport’s timeline, construction of BRT stops, both on-corridor and off-corridor, is targeted to be completed by the end of 2026. In this project, Bandung City Government plays a supportive role, assisting with permitting and land preparation,’ he added. Ferlian explained that once construction is complete, BRT management will be transferred to the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jabar). West Java’s Dishub has already appointed PT Jasa Sarana as the temporary operator for its operation. Going forward, the BRT service will be integrated with existing transportation. City transport is planned to act as feeder to bring passengers to the BRT corridor. ‘During the construction process, the public is urged to exercise caution when crossing near the worksites. In addition, the public can submit complaints or feedback on the BRT construction via the complaints service at 0813-1436-704,’ he said.
